2N2222 has near to 0 time before the peak current decays to the steady state current. I already thought of the storage time, but it does not really fit, especially if I try different transistors in the simulation and compare the outcome with the corresponding storage time of the transitor in the datasheet. It has a high DC Current Gain of 300 and the maximum current. The peak current of 730 mA is given by (V2-Vce)/R1.īut which characteristic of the transistor determines how long the peak current (730 mA) sustains before the current falls down to steady state current (350 mA?) In this example the time is ~300 ns. The 2N3904 NPN BJT is a general-purpose transistor we employ mostly in Switching operations. These are very common, high quality BJT NPN transistors made by ST Micro. Base current is about 2 mA in the given circuit. 2N3904 Revision No : 1 CAPACITANCE C (pF) ob 0.1 0.3 1 3 REVERSE VOLTAGE V (V)CB C - V, C - Vob CB ib EB C (pF) ib V (V)EB 10 30 0. What I get from an LTSpice simulation and also see in real measurements is this (Y-Axis is \$I_\$: collector-emitter current through Q1): A switch seperates a 15 V/20 ohm source from the collector of said transistor. We see a 2N3904 transistor with constant base current of 2 mA. Having the bigger picture I think is what is needed to debug problems. Thanks for any help on this issue.I currently face a question about the BJT circuit given here: Sometimes I think having this bigger picture understanding of what the tool wants is better than just a step-by-step procedure to do a specific thing. MAXIMUM RATINGS (Values are at TA 25C unless otherwise noted.) (Note 1, Note 2) Stresses exceeding those listed in the Maximum Ratings table may damage thedevice. Exact specifications should be obtained from the product data sheet. I guess I am not understanding the "bigger picture" of how symbols and models relate to the schematic and the simulator. Amplifier 2N3904 Description This device is designed as a generalpurpose amplifier and switch. The useful dynamic range extends to 100 mA as a switch and to100 MHz as an amplifier. Discrete Semiconductor Products Transistors Bipolar (BJT) Single Bipolar Transistors NTE Electronics, Inc 2N3904 Share Image shown is a representation only. Why? Now if it turns out that what I thought was a real library of models is in fact not the case, I guess I can download a text file of the 2N3904 model, and connect it to a symbol as described in the tutorial - which is ok. 2N3904 Central Semiconductor Bipolar Transistors - BJT NPN Gen Pur SS datasheet, inventory, & pricing. So, I am totally confused as to why I can instantiate a part from a list of parts in a library, but apparently there is missing information in that instantiation that the netlister needs. This a TO-92 plastic case for through-hole mounting and is commonly used for small signal transistors. This model is available from several different manufacturers. This graph from the 2N3904 datasheet shows a typical saturation voltage around 50 mV between 1 mA and 10 mA collector current. Fiore Mohawk Valley Community College The data sheet for a common NPN transistor, the 2N3904, is shown in Figure 4.4. The voltage is much more constant than that. So based on this, I would think I am accessing a large library of transistors, from which I can instantiate them onto the schematic and can proceed to simulate the circuit behavior.īut when I generate a netlist, the error is that 'No PSPICE template found for Q1' That will vary a bit with current, but not linearly so you would speak of a fixed resistance. So I click on it and hit the place button, and instantiate it onto the schematic, which it shows as Q1 Under Libraries, it shows '2N3904/Transistor.olb' - which I then double-click onĪt the top, it shows a long list of transistors, one of which is '2N3904/TRANSISTOR' Is a 2N3904 Model Built Into the PSPICE-TI Download?Īt the bottom, I click on 'Search for Part' and enter '2N3904'
